Sleepful Nights

Do not be afraid at night, darkness can be our friend. God is present in it, He counsels us in it, and He instructs us in it. In our beds, we may hear God's voice, as we can nowhere else. We can listen to His thoughts and meditate on His word.

Protect me, O God; I trust in you for safety. I say to the LORD, "You are my LORD; all the good things I have come from you." How excellent are the LORD's faithful people! My greatest pleasure is to be with them. - Psalm 16:1-3

Our closely kept secret as we get older is that we need God, and that the only way to know Him, is to accept Jesus. We get sick and we can no longer make it alone. When we come to realize that, we can sleep in peace, knowing that we will be protected.

As a deer longs for a stream of cool water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for you, the living God. When can I go and worship in your presence? Day and night I cry, and tears are my only food; all the time my enemies ask me, "Where is your God?" My heart breaks when I remember the past, when I went with the crowds to the house of God and led them as they walked along, a happy crowd, singing and shouting praise to God. Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my savior and my God. - Psalm 42:1-5
