My Help
Comes From The Lord
I lift up my eyes to
the mountains—where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of
heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—he who watches
over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither
slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your
shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by
night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will
watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now
and forevermore.
Psalm
121:1-8
Psalm 121 begins with a personal confession of
faith in the Lord who brought all things into existence, and He was the source
of the psalmist’s help. Just what does this mean? Stability, care, constant
presence and protection, and preservation from all kinds of evil for time and
eternity.
Taking their cues from Scripture, God’s people
through the ages have identified the Lord as their source of “help’ through
their songs.
Do you feel alone, forsaken, abandoned,
confused? Ponder the lyrics in Psalm 121. Allow these words to fill your soul with
faith and courage. You’re not alone, so don’t try to do life on your own. Rather,
rejoice in the earthly and eternal care of God as demonstrated in the life,
death, resurrection, and ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ. And whatever the
next steps, take them with His help.
The Maker
of the universe is the helper of God’s people.
