Lord,
You Alone Are My Portion
Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you
make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in
pleasant places; surely I have a delightful
inheritance.
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even
at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at
my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my
heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because
you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your
faithful one see decay.
You make known to me the path of life; you will
fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.
Psalm
16:5-11
Think about the first big job you had. New
city, new apartment, very little money. A wife, and a child.
Think about how lonely it was right after
college.
The thrill of the first step fades quickly. The
job may have been interesting, but the loneliness
could sometimes feel crushing.
And then one night you open your Bible. You stumble
onto Psalm 16, where verse 11 promises God will fill us. We would then have prayed
to the Lord. We would have asked for His help and His guidance.
And then, slowly, as we aged, we do not feel so
all alone. We know God is with us.
Trust in the Bible. Trust in the Lord. God will
gradually deepen our faith. We can experience His faithfulness in a way you
have never known before. And at some point, we learn that our job is simply to
pour out our heart to Him…and humbly await His faithful response, trusting His
promise to fill us with His Spirit.
Anchor
your heart in God.
