Will
You Forget Me Forever?
How long, Lord? Will you
forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle
with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my
enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer,
Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will
say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But I trust in your
unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s
praise, for he has been good to me.
Psalm
13:1-6
The first time we see a
baby we cry. When we learn that the baby is normal, we cry. When we learn that
he will never open his eyes, we cry. When babies die we know that they will not
open their eyes until they are in the arms of Jesus,
In our deepest pain, we
turn to the songs of David because he writes out of his own grief. “How long
must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day we have sorrow in my heart?” “Give
light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death.” Yet David, in the Bible, could
give his biggest questions to God. “But I trust in your unfailing love; my
heart rejoices in your salvation.”
Only
God can bring ultimate significance to our most tragic events.
