It
Is Good To Wait Quietly For The Salvation Of The Lord
I remember my affliction
and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall.
I well remember them, and
my soul is downcast within me.
Yet this I call to mind and
therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for
his compassions never fail.
They are new every
morning; great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The
Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
The Lord is good to those
whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for
the salvation of the Lord.
Lamentations
3:19-26
In the past year our
congregation has grieved over wayward children, deaths of loved ones, job
losses and broken relationships. We have also experienced God’s grace and we
remember healed personal connections.
Reflecting over the
history of trials our church family faced, much like Jeremiah remembered his “affliction”
and his “wandering” we also believed “because of the Lord’s great love we are
not consumed, for his compassions never fail.” As the prophet reassured himself
of God’s past faithfulness, his words comfort us: “The Lord is good to those whose
hope is in him, to the one who seeks him.”
We continue to seek Him.
We know whatever we face in the years to come, we can rely on the Lord. As we
continue to seek Him and support one another, we can, as did Jeremiah, find our
hope being ratified by faith-building memories of God’s unchanging character
and dependability.
As
we look ahead to the new year,
let’s
remember that God has always been and always will be faithful.
