Written
For Our Learning
We
then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to
please ourselves. Let each of us please
his neighbor for his good, leading to edification. For even Christ did not please Himself; but
as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You
fell on Me.” For whatever things were written before were written for our
learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have
hope. Now may the God of patience and
comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ
Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 15:1-6
Artwork
can be magnificent. We can be across a room and see the whole thing clearly,
but when we get up close, a paint splotch appears to be only a paint splotch.
We
can feel the same way about the Bible. Where do we start? We might wonder
whether we will ever understand it. Paul reminded us: “Everything that was
written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance
taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.”
God
has given us the Scriptures for our instruction and encouragement. He has also
given us His Spirit to help us to know His mind.
With
the help of the Spirit, we can approach the Bible with confidence, knowing that
through its pages God wants us to know Him and His way.
Read the Bible to get to know its Author.
