Wounds
From A Friend Can Be Trusted
Better is open rebuke than hidden love.
Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy
multiplies kisses.
One who is full loathes honey from the comb, but to
the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.
Like a bird that flees its nest is anyone who flees
from home.
Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the
pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice.
Do not forsake your friend or a friend of your family,
and do not go to your relative’s house when disaster strikes you—better a
neighbor nearby than a relative far away.
Proverbs
27:5-10
So often we would rather be ruined by praise than
saved by criticism, for truth hurts. It bruises our ego, makes us
uncomfortable, and calls for change.
True friends don’t find pleasure in hurting us.
Rather, they love us to much to deceive us. They are people who, with loving
courage, point out what we may already know but find hard to truly accept and
live by. They tell us not only what we like to hear but also what we need to
hear.
A
friend is one who can tell you the truth in love.
