“The
Winds And Sea Obey Him”
Now
when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the
sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him,
saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
But
He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose
and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”
When
He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes, there met Him
two demon-possessed men, coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that
no one could pass that way.
Matthew 8:23-28
There
is a picture of a small boat being hauled. In the background are thunder
clouds, with a rainbow stretching from one side of the horizon to the other.
The
photograph reflects our earthly voyage: We sail into an uncertain future, but
we are surrounded by the faithfulness of God!
Jesus’
disciples were also surrounded by a storm, and Jesus used the experience o teach them about the power and faithfulness of God. We
seek answers for the uncertainties of life. We watch the future getting closer
and wonder what will happen to us, when we get there.
Whether
young or old we all face uncertain futures. Heaven answers: God’s love and
goodness encircle us no matter what awaits us. We wait and see what God will
do!
We sail into the uncertain future surrounded by the
faithfulness of God!
