Discern
Both Good And Evil
…of whom we have much to
say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.
For though by this time
you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first
principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid
food. For everyone who partakes only of
milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of
full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to
discern both good and evil.
Hebrews
5:11-14
There are Christians who
avoid healthy growth, remaining content with “spiritual milk,” intended for new
believers. Maybe there is a fear of persecution. The end result is that those
type of Christians are not strong enough to suffer with Him for the sake of
others. Instead they were in danger of sliding backward from the Christlike attitudes they had already shown. They weren’t
ready for a solid diet of self-sacrifice.
Growing up with Him
involves more than our own peace and joy. Growth in His likeness honors God as
we unselfishly encourage others.
The
more we live on a diet of God’s Word, the more we grow.
