“Mary
Has Chosen That Good Part”
Now it happened as they
went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha
welcomed Him into her house. And she had
a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving,
and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not
care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”
And Jesus answered and
said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many
things. But one thing is needed, and
Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Luke
10:38-42
Now it came to pass, as
He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples
said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”
So He said to them, “When
you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your
name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our
daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into
temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”
Luke
11:1-4
Our Daily Bread is food
for the soul.
It was spiritual food
that Mary chose when she sat at the feet of Jesus and listened attentively to
His words. While Martha wearied herself with concern about physical food, Mary
was taking time to be near their guest, the Lord Jesus, and to listen to Him.
May we take that time as well. He is the Bread of
Life, and He feeds our hearts with spiritual food. He is the Bread that
satisfies.
“I
am the bread of life.”
