“Resist Him, Standing
Firm In The Faith”
In the same way, you
who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe
yourselves with humility toward one another, because,
“God opposes the proud but
shows favor to the humble.”
Humble yourselves,
therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast
all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Be alert and of sober
mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for
someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know
that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind
of sufferings.
1
Peter 5:5-9
In the 1800’s ships
were so overloaded that it was not unusual for ships to go down, losing all to
the sea. A “load line” was created. It was called the Plimsoll
Line. It is still in use today. It marks the hulls of
ships today.
Sometimes, like those
ships, our lives seem overloaded with fears, struggles, and heartaches. We can
even feel that we are in danger of going under in those times. It is reassuring
to remember that we have a remarkable resource.
God is capable of
handling the cares that overwhelm us.
Though the testings of life may feel like a burden too heavy to bear,
we can have full assurance that our heavenly Father loves us deeply and knows
our load limits. Whatever we face, He will help us to bear it.
God
may lead us into troubled waters to deepen our trust in Him.
