A
Good Name
A good name is more
desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
Rich and poor have this
in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all.
The prudent see danger
and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
Humility is the fear of
the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.
In the paths of the
wicked are snares and pitfalls, but those who would preserve their life stay
far from them.
Proverbs 22:1-5
Our reputations are
fragile. Once they are damaged, they are hard to restore. It is not uncommon to
sacrifice a good reputation on the altar of power, prestige, or profit. This
could be our own story.
God is telling us that
true value must be placed not in what we have but in who we are.
When we fail, He picks
us up again by His love. By our example, others around us will be led to praise
the God who has redeemed and transformed us – for the name of the Lord is
worthy of glory, honor, and all praise.
The
purest treasure mortal times afford is a spotless reputation.
