He Heals The Brokenhearted And Binds Up Their Wounds
Praise the Lord. How good
it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!
The Lord builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. He
heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He
determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great
is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.
Sing to the Lord with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp.
He covers the sky with
clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the
hills. He provides food for the cattle and for the
young ravens when they call.
Psalm
147:1-9
On a high plateau above the Atacama Desert in
Chile, the world’s largest radio telescope is giving astronomers a view of the universe
never seen before. Ostensibly the astronomers are using the telescope to look
for clues about the dawn of the cosmos – from the coldest gases and dust where
galaxies are formed and stars are born to the energy from the Big Bang.
The Bible celebrates the mighty power and
infinite understanding of God who can count the number of stars in the
universe. We know the Creator of the universe is not a remote, uncaring force,
but a loving heavenly Father who takes up everyone in the world and cares for
them.
We know He takes pleasure in those who fear Him.
We know He treasures those who put their hope in His mercy.
He loves us so much that He gave His only
begotten Son to us.
God, who
knows the name of every star, knows our names as well.
