Whatever
You Do,
Work
At It With All Your Heart
Slaves,
obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is
on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for
the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it
with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that
you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord
Christ you are serving.
Colossians
3:22-24
Is ambition wrong? Is
it wrong to be driven? It can be. The difference between right and wrong
ambition is in our goal and motivation – whether it’s for God’s glory or our
own.
Whether the change in
us takes place instantly or gradually, the Christian is to pursue God’s goals,
not selfish ones.
In the workplace we
might ask how a job change might help us serve others and glorify God.
We glorify Him most and
enjoy Him most when we work with fervor and excellence for His pleasure, not ours.
For His service and the service to others, not self-service
and personal gain – because He deserves our all.
We
grow small trying to be great.
