The
Lord Establishes Their Steps.
To humans belong the
plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.
All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he
will establish your plans. The Lord works out everything to its proper end—
even the wicked for a day of disaster. The Lord detests all the proud of heart.
Be sure of this: They will not go
unpunished. Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is
avoided. When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies
to make peace with them. Better a little with righteousness than much gain with
injustice. In their hearts humans plan
their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
Proverbs
16:1-9
We can plan our lives,
but it will be God who leads our lives.
Last Monday 27,000
people planned to run the Boston Marathon and not a single one of them planned
to come out with missing legs, arms, or being deaf. Four of them died, 170 were
injured. Our world changed.
Seek His plan, not your
plan. God may very well have laid a different course for you.
Through His clear
leading, along with the gifts He gives us, we can live our lives glorifying Him
better. He does not want us to fail. He gives us the tools to carry out what He
wants us to be.
Many of us think ahead
and carefully work out a plan for our lives. We picture in our minds, in great
detail, how our future is going to unfold. But things do not always go as we
had planned. Some doors close, while others open. If this happens to you, it
may be that God has something completely different in mind for you.
It is good to plan and
dream, and think ahead. But we must always be open to God-appointed changes in
direction.
God will never mislead
us. When we trust Him with all our heart, He will direct our path. His way is
always the best way.
Think about the
bombings just over a week ago. Four people are dead, 170 injured, 12 are
missing legs, arms, and face deafness. Their lives have changed, just as each
of our own lives change when we accept Jesus as our Savior.
