“Rich Toward God”

And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’

“Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

Luke 12:16-21

Was the man wrong in thinking he needed more space? Not necessarily. He was wrong for not asking God and seeking guidance.

Jesus called a number of people fools. He did so because those people did not see or understand that many decisions are the decisions of God, not us. We need to seek the counsel of God.

What makes us foolish is leaving God out of the picture. We are foolish if we fail to realize our lives are in God’s hands. We are foolish is we do not make our plans for here and for eternity with the blessing, guidance, and wisdom that God gives us.

Does your plan for the future have God in it? You won’t want to be called foolish by Him in the end.

We can take only one thing with us at the end of our lives on earth – our souls.

Where will you be spending eternity?
