“’Love The
Lord Your God With
All Your Heart’”
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got
together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus
replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind.’ This is the first and
greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as
yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Matthew 22:34-40
When
we play games we know that winning is great. Playing the game is even greater,
but the best is loving the game. So it is with our
love for Jesus. Loving Him is the
greatest thing, and His commandment back to us is to love our neighbors as
ourselves.
Whatever
else our faith in Jesus Christ compels us to do, there
is nothing greater we can do than to show our love – because love reveals the
heart of our holy heavenly Father. Our focus is to love God. That in turn
enables us to love one another. There is nothing greater.
The proof of our love for God is our obedience
to
the commands of God.
