Give Me Understanding

Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end. Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart.  Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word. Fulfill your promise to your servant, so that you may be feared. Take away the disgrace I dread, for your laws are good. How I long for your precepts! In your righteousness preserve my life.

Psalm 119:33-40

There are times when horses need eye masks. Those keep the flies out. The masks allow the horses to see but keep the flies from giving diseases to the eyes of the horse. Otherwise they would go blind.

Do not ever look at the Bible as a blinder or a mask that keeps you from having fun. Look at the Bible as a way for you to be able to trust God to provide for your needs so you can enjoy life.

God does not want to keep anything away from us, but sin. The Bible keeps us from being infected which causes spiritual blindness. The Bible does not keep us from enjoying life; it makes true enjoyment possible.

The Bible does not keep us from knowing the truth; it prevents us from believing the lies.

When we see through the filter of the Word, we learn the truth about both.
