Value Others Above Yourselves

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Philippians 2:1-4

Most of us are an expert in something. And when we are doing that thing that we do best, we give it our rapt attention. Forget yourselves in an activity, and do it well. But don’t get conceited, do it in lowness of mind and don’t think yourselves better than someone else.

When we are listening to friends, focus on what the person is saying, not how you look, or what he thinks of you, or what you should say next. Put others first, concentrate on the one in front of you, and forget about yourself.

Our Lord Jesus laid His life on the line for us.

He gave us His rapt attention.

We should give Him and all His creatures the same loving, and rapt attention.

Listening may be the most loving thing you do today.
