No Overseer Or Ruler

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep?

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

Proverbs 6:6-11

When a building deck falls in at the back of your house you have to look at how it was constructed, how long it was in place, whose fault it was that it fell in the first place. Sometimes we find that things were constructed without proper oversight.

Think about ants. They don’t seemingly have supervisors to watch their every move, but the work gets done.

What about us. Do we need direct supervision or can we be relied on to get the job done, correctly? Do we do good work only when someone is watching? Or do we recognize that all of our work is done for God, and do our best at all times, even when we are not being watched?

No matter who your boss is, you are really working for God.
