Teachings
My
son Timothy, I give you these teachings. They are in keeping with the
prophecies that were once made about you. By following them, you can fight the
good fight. Then you will hold on to faith. You will hold on to a good sense of
what is right and wrong.
Some
have not accepted these teachings. By doing that, they have
destroyed their faith. They are like a ship that has sunk. Hymenaeus and
Alexander are among them. I have handed them over to Satan. That will teach
them not to speak evil things against God.
1 Timothy 1:18-20
Do
you have a standard against which you measure truth? If someone tells you
something, do you accept it, question it, or ask someone else about it? The
Bible should be our standard of truth. That means never question the words of
the Bible. Always question the interpretation people apply to the meaning of
the Bible. Always question books about the Bible. That
does not mean other books are not true, but they should be measured against the
standard of truth, the Bible.
Years
ago magnetic compasses were created. The problem was that on iron ships they
did not always read accurately, and in certain parts of the world, they didn’t
always read accurately. That problem led to many shipwrecks. Looked
at in another way, that compass reading might be a false interpretation of
something in the Bible.
Biblical
truth is being questioned and in some cases even replaced in the church today.
Our opinions must never replace the truth of God’s Word. The Bible, not man’s
erroneous opinions about it, is the ultimate guide for our conscience in
navigating life’s changing seas. Beware of wrong readings.
The first point of wisdom is to know the truth; the second,
to
discern what is false.
