Listening To What He Said

Jesus and his disciples went on their way. Jesus came to a village where a woman named Martha lived. She welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary.

Mary sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was busy with all the things that had to be done. She came to Jesus and said, "Lord, my sister has left me to do the work by myself. Don't you care? Tell her to help me!"

"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered. "You are worried and upset about many things.”

Luke 10:38-41

When we are distracted our minds are elsewhere. That is generally when bad things happen. We were not on top of things. We had not prayed beforehand for guidance, direction and wisdom.

Anything that takes us away from our role in life, which is to witness for our Lord, is not good. The Bible teaches moderation in all aspects of our lives. Some things that are good, if you do them too often, have the opposite impact.

Martha wanted to do right by Jesus, but she was distracted. She had a lot going on. Be careful that you too don’t fall into that trap. Martha should have been listening to Jesus, but she was distracted with household things.

Are life’s options distracting you from what your primary priorities should be?

We were created to glorify God.
