“Let’s Go Somewhere Else”

That evening after sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who were sick. They also brought all who were controlled by demons. All the people in town gathered at the door. Jesus healed many of them. They had all kinds of sicknesses. He also drove out many demons. But he would not let the demons speak, because they knew who he was.

It was very early in the morning and still dark. Jesus got up and left the house. He went to a place where he could be alone. There he prayed. Simon and his friends went to look for Jesus. When they found him, they called out, "Everyone is looking for you!"

Jesus replied, "Let's go somewhere else. I want to go to the nearby towns. I must preach there also. That is why I have come." So he traveled all around Galilee. He preached in their synagogues. He also drove out demons.

Mark 1:32-39

Is your life too busy? Business deadlines, productivity quotas, and taking care of the schedules of our children all fill up our schedules.

C.S. Lewis has pointed out that no one was busier than Jesus. His workshop, the roads he traveled, the crowds he turned, the clamorous demands made on Him by those who supported Him and those who opposed Him were all demands made of Him. He had a lack of peace and privacy, and interruptions all the time.

And after a day of all of this, Jesus would seek out a solitary place and pray. He received direction from His Father to pursue a demanding ministry in another place. Our Lord communed with His Father and depended on the Spirit to minister through Him.

Is your own schedule demanding? Follow the example of Jesus and set aside a specific time for prayer. Then depend upon God’s power to help you meet each day’s demands.

To keep your life in balance, lean on the Lord.
