The Power
To Comprehend
I pray that you may have
the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is
the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ
that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of
God.
Ephesians
3:18-19
Paul had a response for
God loving him. The apostle prayed that believers might “have the power to
comprehend.”
In reflecting on these
verses about God’s love, some Bible scholars believe “width” refers to its
worldwide embrace; “length” refers to its existence throughout all ages; “depth”
is its profound wisdom; and “height” is its victory over sin opening the way to
heaven.
We are admonished to
appreciate this amazing love. Yet as we expand our awareness of God’s love, we
soon realize that its full measure is beyond our understanding. Even if the
ocean were filled with ink, using it to write about the love of God would drain
it dry.
God’s
love cannot be explained – it can only be experienced.
