The Beginning Of Knowledge
The proverbs of Solomon
son of David, king of Israel:
For learning about wisdom
and instruction, for understanding words of insight, for gaining instruction in
wise dealing, righteousness, justice, and equity; to teach shrewdness to the
simple, knowledge and prudence to the young – let the wise also hear and gain
in learning, and the discerning acquire skill, to understand a proverb and a
figure, the words of the wise and their riddles.
The fear of the LORD is
the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Hear, my child, your
father’s instruction, and do not reject your mother’s teaching; for they are a
fair garland for your head and pendants for your neck.
Proverbs
1:1-9
Proverbs mirrors the kind
of mentoring a father gives to his son, or a mother gives to her daughter.
Proverbs mirrors the
mentoring of an adult to a child in facing life’s challenges and rewards.
How God-honoring it would
be if more couples began their married lives together with an attitude that
heeded the wisdom of those who walked the path before them.
He
is truly wise who gains his wisdom from the experience of others.
