“Remember
Me
When It Is Well With You”
Then Joseph said to him, “This is the
interpretation: the three branches are three days; within three days Pharaoh
will lift up your head and restore you to your office; and you shall place
Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you used to do when you were his cup-bearer.
But remember me when it is well with you; please do me the kindness to make
mention of me to Pharaoh, and so get me out of this place. For in fact I was
stolen out of the land of the Hebrews; and here also I have done nothing that
they should have put me into the dungeon.”
Genesis 40:12-15
Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember
Joseph, but forgot him.
Genesis 40:23
Have you ever noticed that other people’s
forgetfulness can try your patience? In the cash of Joseph, it was two years
before the chief cupbearer spoke to Pharaoh about Joseph.
Finally, Joseph was freed.
Yet Joseph had a resource: He had God’s
presence, as do we. When you are feeling impatient, lean on
the God who is always with you. He’ll turn your impatience into patient
trust.
Patience means awaiting God’s time without doubting God’s love.
