Make Your Face Shine
Upon Your Servant
Your decrees are
wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them. The unfolding of your words gives
light; it imparts understanding to the simple. With open mouth I pant, because
I long for your commandments. Turn to me and be gracious to me, as is your custom
toward those who love your name. Keep my steps steady according to your
promise, and never let iniquity have dominion over me. Redeem me from human oppression, that I may
keep your precepts. Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your
statutes. My eyes shed streams of tears because your law is not kept.
Psalm
119:129-136
What are your moral
values? Do the ten commandments mean anything to you?
If you thought no one was watching, would you cheat?
Centuries ago, the
psalmist understood the need for a moral benchmark and asked for divine aid in
following it. He prayed to the Lord that his steps be directed by the Word of
the Lord. He asked God to teach him the statutes of the Lord.
The Lord has given us His
Word as a lamp for our feet and a light for our path to direct us in our moral
choices.
Like
a compass,
the
Bible always points
in the right direction.
