Wash
The Disciples’ Feet
Now before the festival of the Passover,
Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the
Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.
The devil had already put it into the heart of Judas son of Simon Iscariot to
betray him. And during supper Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all
things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, got
up from the table, took off his outer robe, and tied a towel around himself.
Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to
wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.
John 13:1-5
Have you ever really stopped to think
about what it really meant when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples? God
humbled Himself to do the lowliest of tasks. If that is what our God is really
like, don’t you want to be a part of His kingdom? Think about it and then
remember how humble the God that created the universe and knows us each by name, really is?
We Christians sometimes take God’s
existence for granted. We believe what the Bible tells us about the eternal
Spirit who never began to be and whose existence will
never end. But we may wonder sometimes about His character. If He allows
disaster, how could He also be kind and loving? Remember, we are refined by
fire, and we are tested to become more like our Savior and our Father.
God really does wash feet. His
unfathomable, sacrificial love for us should cause us to surrender to Him too.
No life is more
secure
than a life
surrendered to God.
