Walked With God
When Jared had lived one
hundred sixty-two years he became the father of Enoch. Jared lived after the
birth of Enoch eight hundred years, and had other sons and daughters. Thus all
the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty-two years; and he died.
When Enoch had lived
sixty-five years, he became the father of Methuselah. Enoch walked with God
after the birth of Methuselah three hundred years, and had others sons and
daughters. Thus all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty-five years.
Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him.
Genesis
5:18-24
What did it mean for Enoch
to walk with God? It describes Enoch’s close communion with God – as if
literally walking by His side. Also, it refers to Enoch’s unswerving obedience
to God in a corrupt culture. God rewarded Enoch’s faithfulness by taking him to
heaven while he was still alive. Death would not have the final word in God’s
creation.
Enoch’s walk with God
reminds us that it is possible for all of us to enjoy intimate communion with
the Lord. Let’s commit ourselves to walking faithfully with Him every day.
You’re
headed in the right direction when you walk with God.
