The Work Of My Hands
Instead
of bronze I will bring gold, instead of iron I will bring silver; instead of
wood, bronze, instead of stones, iron. I will appoint Peace as your overseer
and Righteousness as your taskmaster. Violence shall no more be heard in your
land, devastation or destruction within your borders; you shall call your walls
Salvation, and your gates Praise. The sun shall no longer be your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you by night; but the LORD will
be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. Your sun shall no
more go down, or your moon withdraw itself; for the LORD will be your
everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended. Your people shall
all be righteous; they shall possess the land forever. They are the shoot that
I planted, the work of my hands, so that I might be glorified. The least of
them shall become a clan, and the smallest one a
mighty nation; I am the LORD; in its time I will accomplish it quickly.
Isaiah
60:17-22
At a
time when death and evil reigned, the prophet Isaiah anticipated a day when
death itself would die. The song “Taps” can be a reminder for us. Taps is
played at the end of the day, but it is also used in military funerals. “Day is
done, gone the sun, from the hills, From the lake,
from the sky; All is well, safely rest, God is nigh.” For us the sunset here,
will be a sunrise in heaven. And when that happens, our days of mourning will
end here and a new day will dawn in heaven.
We
need to also look at the time from sunrise to sunset, not just the time from
sunset to sunrise. One has to do with life here, and one has to do with life,
eternally. If we do not take care of the day time, we will never get the chance
for that eternal sunset and sunrise. Are we bringing glory to God? Are we
witnessing for Him? Have we accepted Jesus as our Savior?
Cars
get tune-ups. Tires rotated, spark plugs changed, new oil and water, and a
wash. And most of the time all of those things are done by mechanics or someone
with a specialty. In our case, God is the one giving the tune-up. He gets His
hands dirty for us. It may be expensive, it may be time consuming, but we need
that tune-up to be in tune with God. Jobs, personal relationships, pride,
things we take for granted, and finances all need to be in order, and in check,
if we are to be at peak performance in serving our Lord. Has God given you a tune-up lately? It can come at any time. In the
end you will be a better witness. We are the work of God’s hands, and we need
to use our time wisely.
Sunset
in one land is sunrise in another.
