The LORD
Is My Shepherd
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He
makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he
restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff – they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence
of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness
and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the
house of the LORD my whole life long.
Psalm 23:1-6
There are so many metaphors in the Bible that
portray the life of Jesus. He loves little children. He loves sinners. He loves
the sick and the poor. But he is also portrayed as holding
a lamb. And yet, He is the lamb. He was sacrificed for our sins. And today He
lives in us, through the Spirit, our Helper.
Take some time to be quiet. Pray for guidance.
Pray to be shown the way. Be quiet. Listen for the Spirit to speak to you in a
way only our Lord has provided. It’s a quiet voice. You have to turn down the
volume to hear that voice. You have to act on the voice. The Spirit always asks
us to act, to do something. And in the end, if we follow the voice, we will
bring glory to God.
It is reassuring to know that our Shepherd will
guide us safely through this life, and that He will continue to feed and lead
us throughout eternity.
The Lamb who died to
save us
is the Shepherd who
lives to lead us.
