Look Forward To The Mercy
Of Our Lord Jesus Christ
But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray
in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God; look forward to the
mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And have mercy on
some who are wavering; save others by snatching them out of the fire; and have
mercy on still others with fear, hating even the tunic defiled by their bodies.
Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you
stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only
God our savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and
authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
Jude 1:20-25
Have you ever been on a highway on which construction is taking
place? Sometimes it can be pretty rough. And then you get to the end and there
is a sign which says “End of Construction – Thanks For Your Patience.” That is
kind of how our lives are, a series of construction projects. When the project
is complete, we go to heaven. Every follower of Jesus Christ can share the
confidence that God’s faithfulness will carry us through this period of
spiritual building on earth. Today, we are in the construction zone. Jude’s
letter challenges us to grow in faith, pray in the Spirit, and remain
surrounded by God’s love. But this construction is not a self-centered process.
We are to show mercy to others and rescue those in danger of spiritual ruin.
One day our construction will be complete, a prospect that is worth
so much more than a smile.
To build a godly life,
let God be the architect
and His Word the blueprint.
