Encouragement Of
The Scriptures
We who are strong ought to put up with the failings of
the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us must please our neighbor for
the good purpose of building up the neighbor. For Christ did not please
himself; but, as it is written, “The insults of those who insult you have
fallen on me.” For whatever was written in former days was written for our
instruction, so that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the
scriptures we might have hope. May the God of steadfastness and encouragement
grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus,
so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has
welcomed you, for the glory of God.
Romans 15:1-7
There are things that we think make us comfortable, but they
are not good for us. While we are comfortable, all is not well with the world.
Real comfort is not the byproduct of specific foods any more than it is the
result of alcohol or money or pleasure or power.
Paul told the church at Rome that the search for comfort
can come in the pages of the Bible.
God has given us His Word to draw us to Himself. Through a relationship with Him, He provides the
comfort we need to live in a broken world.
God’s Word is a life preserver that keeps
the soul from sinking in a sea of trouble.
