Of Joy

When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy, then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for us, and we rejoiced.

Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like the watercourses in the Negeb. May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy. Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, carrying their sheaves.

Psalm 126:1-6

A cheerful heart is vital to life. A happy heart affects our spirit and our physical health.

Because there is a deeper, abiding joy for those who trust the LORD that is based on much more than frivolity and circumstances. It is a joy based on God’s salvation. He has provided forgiveness of sin and a restored relationship with Himself through His Son Jesus. That gives us a deep joy which circumstances cannot shake.

Joy comes from the Lord

who lives in us,

not from what’s happening around us.
