No Prophesy Ever Came By

For we did not follow cleverly devise myths when we made known
to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been
eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the
Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, “This
is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” We ourselves heard this
voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain.
So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will
do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the
day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. First of all you must
understand this, that no prophesy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,
because no prophesy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the
Holy Spirit spoke from God.
2 Peter 1:16-21
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there
will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive
opinions. They will even deny the Master who bought them – bringing swift
destruction on themselves. Even so, many will follow their licentious ways, and
because of these teachers the way of truth will be maligned. And in their greed
they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced
against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not sleep.
2 Peter 2:1-3
Some people have claimed to have found hidden meanings and
messages in the Bible. Certain cults will cite a verse out of context, only to
lead someone into heretical doctrine. To interpret a biblical passage
accurately, we must always consider the context and compare it with other
Scripture. This respects the clear meaning of the Bible without trying to find
hidden meaning in it.
The best interpreter of Scripture is
Scripture itself.
