“It Is I; Do Not Be Afraid”
When Jesus realized that they were
about to come and take him by force to make him king, he withdrew again to the
mountain by himself.
When evening came, his disciples went
down to the sea, got into a boat, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It
was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea became rough because
a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three our four miles, they
saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were terrified.
But he said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they wanted to take him
into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the land toward which they were
going.
We all face fear. But when we say the
name Jesus, if we believe He is our Savior, we should be calmed. He had that
effect on the disciples. He has that effect on us now. There is nothing that is
too big for our God. If we have a nightmare and wake up, say a prayer of
thanks.
The Savior speaks the same assurance
to us today amid the many fears of our Christian journey as He did 2,000 years
ago.
You need not fear the darkness if you
are walking with the Light of the World.
