He Has Filled Them With Skill

Then Moses said to the Israelite: See, the LORD has called by name Bezalel son of Iri son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah; he has filled him with divine spirit, with skill, intelligence, and knowledge in every kind of craft, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, in every kind of craft. And he has inspired him to teach, both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. He has filled them with skill to do every kind of work done by an artisan or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue, purple, and crimson yards, and in fine linen, or by a weaver – by any sort of artisan or skilled designer.

Exodus 35:30-35

God created us with different gifts. Engineers who work for the glory of God design machines that make life easier. The Lord also created artists, who make life more pleasant by creating beautiful things for the glory of God and the enjoyment of others. When we think of art in worship, we usually think of music. But other art forms have long had a role in honoring God. God commissioned artists to beautify the first place of worship, which was the tabernacle.

When artistic talent is enlivened by the Spirit of God, it becomes an act of worship that then can become a witness to point people to Christ. God has greatly enriched our lives with beauty. And we in turn express our gratitude by displaying His glory in our art.

Do all things for the glory of God.
