Whom Have I In
Heaven But You?
Whom have I in
heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you. My
flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion
forever.
Indeed, those who are far from you
will perish; you put an end to those who are false to you. But for me it is
good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, to tell of all your
works.
All progress in the spiritual life is
progress toward knowing God and loving Him. Having the perspective that God is
your strength will change the way you look at everything. Suffering and
adversity become the means by which we are made hungry and thirsty for God.
Disappointments become the tools that wean us away from earthy occupations and
move us toward a preoccupation with God alone. Even sin, when repented of,
becomes a mechanism to push us closer to Him so that we can experience His love
and forgiveness. All things become useful when viewed as the means to the
highest good – drawing near to God.
God loves us
too much to let us stay as we are.
