“I Do Choose.
Be Made
Clean!”
When Jesus had come down from the mountain, great crowds followed him, and there was a leper who came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you choose, you can make me clean.” He stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I do choose. Be made clean!” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Then Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
In the church and in the community of
God’s people there are definitely “dirty” jobs that God has called us to do.
There is no glamour in working in a homeless shelter, except that as Christians
we can provide hope in the gospel and physical help to street people. You can
also help in walking into a hospital room to visit a patient who has received
bad news from a doctor. You can help in the counseling of an abused spouse to
help her regain her dignity and piece her life back together.
Imagine how the crowds must have
gasped when Jesus reached out and touched the leper. He was not afraid of the
“dirty jobs” and neither should we be.
Work well done
for Christ
will receive a
“well done”
from Christ.
