Arm

Yourselves

Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same intention (for whoever has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin), so as to live for the rest of your earthly life no longer by human desires but by the will of God. You have already spent enough time in doing what the Gentiles like to do, living in licentiousness, passions, drunkenness, revels, carousing, and lawless idolatry. They are surprised that you no longer join them in the same excesses of dissipation, and so they blaspheme.

1 Peter 4:1-5

We are sometimes called to be willing to go against the flow of society. We do this in obedience to our Master. As we follow Jesus, our motives, values, and habits are bound to be different from those who are not Christians.

When we are marching to the beat of a different drummer, of course we will be out of step with certain aspects of society. This takes courage, conviction, and courtesy. But by God’s enabling grace we can be disturbingly different – and effectively different too.

When we walk with the Lord,

we’ll be out of step with the world.
