You Guide Me With Your Counsel

Nevertheless I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me with honor. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire other than you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Indeed, those who are far from you will perish; you put an end to those who are false to you. But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, to you of all your works.

Psalm 73:23-28

Our thirst for God should drive us. When we are spiritually dry, we long to hear from Him through His Word, and we search for even a drop of knowledge about Him. When we are exercising our faith in a new way, we want to be close to Him and receive His strength. Our thirst for God may increase when we see the sinfulness of people around us or when we gain a new awareness of our own sin and need for Him.

Spiritual thirst is a metaphor used throughout Scripture. Draw near to God and your thirst will be taken care of. He will satisfy us and yet give us a deeper thirst for Himself. We will learn to desire Him above all else.

A thirst for God can be satisfied only by Christ,

the Living Water.
