Give Me Understanding

Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes, and I will observe it to the end. Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart. Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. Turn my heart to your decrees, and not to selfish gain. Turn my eyes from looking at vanities; give me life in your ways. Confirm to your servant your promise, which is for those who fear you. Turn away the disgrace that I dread, for your ordinances are good. See, I have longed for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life.

Psalm 119:33-40

In the Christian life we frequently become preoccupied with the vain things in the world. We allow our lives to become so cluttered with materialistic and insignificant concerns that we lose perspective of the things that endure. In Psalm 119 God is asked for help in fixing attention on what is good and lasting.

The words of the Lord should not depart from our eyes, but must be kept in our heart always. Then our field of vision will be wiped clean of unnecessary things, and we will see clearly what God wants us to do.

Have you become distracted by sin so that you can no longer discern what is really important?

The more attracted we are to Christ,

the less we will be distracted by the world.
