Father, Forgive Them

Two others also, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified Jesus there with the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. Then Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing." And they cast lots to divide his clothing. And the people stood by, watching; but the leaders scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others; let him save himself if he is the Messiah of God, his chosen one!" The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine, and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!" There was also an inscription over him, "This is the King of the Jews."

Luke 23:32-38

The three crosses. All equal in the eyes of those who witnessed the crucifixion. Jesus was in the middle the men. They could reach out and touch Him. One of them scoffed at Him, the other asked for forgiveness. Jesus today is just as much within the reach of all, as He was then. Look to Him and touch Him with the hand of faith. Reach out in faith and look to Jesus for forgiveness.

They rejected Jesus. He had all the emotions we have as humans and they rejected Him. If we do not accept Him today, we also reject Him. He is calling us all. Have you rejected or accepted Him? How have you responded?

Nothing speaks more clearly of God’s love

than the cross of Jesus.
